Sustainable Agricultural Network for Training and Environmental Education (SANTEE) Farm and Gardens

  • SANTEE Farm and Gardens is both a working organic farm and educational center combined. They provide public access to training, tools, land and educational materials on two separate growing sites.
    • The 1st site is a 1/2 acre complex which includes a 1/4 acre bio-intensive organic garden, a dairy barn, a petting zoo and shaded sitting areas with educational display panels. Guest are escorted through fifty plus beds of heirloom vegetable, Native American plants, flowers and medicinal herbs. Self directed exploring is encouraged. Kids can tag along with parents or hang-out in the adjacent petting zoo area.
    • The 2nd site, called the Garden of the Seven Gates, is a 6.5 ridge-top pasture transformed into seven distinct growing zones. The entire property is surrounded by an 8' high fence to ward off the pesky deer population. the Garden of Seven Gates is designed as a permaculture work in progress and will combine perennial, annual, orchard and small scale gardening production with the eventual use of draft animal power. Tours are welcomed.
  • SANTEE's outreach includes an activity internship program, and sharing available gardening space with local families. We also donate surplus produce to the Greater Wheeling Soup Kitchen.
